Quick Fix: Repairing a Chipped Manicure - Professional Advice

So you just got a French manicure, let it dry carefully from a salon and in the evening when you’re headed out, you look at your nails and notice there’s a blasted chip. You can ignore it right? It’s just a little chip after all. Pfft…  No, you can’t! Because the rest of the day all you think about is that darn chip, mocking you which used to be your perfect manicure… Grrr… The chipped manicure trend was never for you and you know it! So you can’t take it anymore and decide, screw it! You take out the cotton and polish remover and start all over.

Hold it right there! Rewind a bit. It’s surely not the end of the world, and there is something better you can do! And that is what we are about to tell you in this article. Read ahead with our tips and tricks about quick fixing our busted manicures:

How to fix chipped nail polish

  • All you need is your polish (the colour you have applied)
  • Nail polish remover. I recommend, Sally Hansen Strengthening Polish Remover
  • Cotton
  • Nail accessory like striping tape to cover up
  • Top coat. I prefer Sally Hansen Insta-Grip Base Coat
  • Base coat, like OPI Natural Nail Base Coat

Point To Remember:

Make this your routine; apply a good base coat, let it dry completely. Then comes your first polish application followed by the second and finish it off with a top coat, ensure you let the paint dry completely before doing the next.

Method 1:

  • Just wet a finger pad on the opposite hand of the chipped polish finger in the remover and using circular motion gently rub it onto the chipped area until the edges of the chipped paint can’t be felt anymore.
  • Then dab on the polish in the area that was chipped. Remember not to stroke.
  • When that is almost dry, paint the entire fingernail in the polish and finish it off by applying another top coat.

And TA-DA! You’re done.  This method will surely save your time!

Method 2:

Yet another method on how to fix chipped nail polish.

  • Similarly, instead of using the remover, you can buff out the edges of the chipped nail polish with a nail buffer
  • Follow the above step and dab on the polish in the area that was chipped.
  • Let the nails dry completely and paint the entire finger nails with your favorite polish and finish it off with a top coat.

This step will ensure the patch blends into the rest of the nail.

Method 3:

  • Paint the chipped portion of the nail with the nail colour.
  • Let it dry but when little messy to touch, soak a cotton pad in remover and blot over the portion.
  • Be careful not to remove the existing nail colour.
  • Now give a coat to the complete nail.

But I find the remover method to be more time saving.

Tip: Instead of all these methods, you can grab metallic or glitter nail paint or add stripes, polka dots and stick it over the chipped nail. Creative cover up, that is perfect for us!

So, try these procedures for yourself and stop nail polish chipping! And why not? With tips that easy, you don’t need to walk around with a chip in your perfect manicure anymore. Just follow these easy tips religiously.
