You may have tried on all kinds of eye shadows, but the one that’s really ‘in’ right now, especially during the winters, is the trend of metallic eye shadows. On the global fashion circuit, this group of eye shadow has been seen on the ramps, made an appearance on the red carpet and has been flaunted at most of the glamorous events.
Metallic eye shadows are mainly snowy or frosted. These are mostly in lightly colours, and you’ll find them under the ‘nude’ shades. These kinds of eye shadows have sparklers or shimmers. While most of the metallic eye shadows are in light and nude colours, some of them can also be bright, like cherry, peach, pinks and lilacs.
The great thing about metallic eye shadows is that, when applied correctly, they can take your whole makeup and your entire look a notch higher. But, if applied incorrectly, these same eye shadows can make you look pale and ghost-like.
While choosing your metallic eye shadows, it is important to understand the look of each shade and how it complements the makeup. Metallic shades that are lighter and sparkle, like silver, shimmery greys or bronzes, tend to give you a more muted look. The brighter metallic shades will make your entire makeup look more bold and pronounced. Some of these shades that can give the eyes a more pronounced look are light pinks, lilacs, moss greens, moon blues, dark greys and dark bronzes.
While applying the metallic eye shadows, make sure you use the applicator brush or an eye shadow brush. Don’t use your finger tips to apply these shades. It is important to properly blend your eye shadow, especially so with metallic shades. Take some of the powder in the brush or applicator. Make sure you swirl the brush and don’t rub it on the shade. This will ensure that you don’t pick up too much product on the brush. Tap off the excess shade that falls out.
Hold the applicator towards the inner corner of your eyes. Now swipe this over the lid in one stroke (make sure you don’t do any back and forth motions while applying metallic shades). Your colour should end at the tail end of your brow bone. To add more drama to the eyes, repeat the process again and cover your eye lids in another swipe.
Take a white or silver metallic shade. Use a small angled eye shadow brush to apply this in the water duct or inner corner of your eyes. This will help add more reflection while making your eyes pop out. It will also create a gap between the eyes and the nose. This trick works great for anyone, but works best for those who have smaller eyes and nose.
Since you’re wearing metallic shades, there is something else you can do to enhance the drama. Do not apply an eye liner as you would normally do with regular eye shadows. If you absolutely need your eye liner, make sure you make a very thin line close to the lashes. Instead of a prominent eye liner, do a tight lining of the eyes, or, in other words, stretch your eyelids a little by carefully applying a pencil liner. You can use black or any other colour you want. Work this on the inside the eye lash line and do this for both upper and lower lash line. Doing this will enhance the metallic look.
Finish off with mascara and you’re set to flaunt your international ramp-styled metallic look!
