Mastering Anime Eye Makeup: A Step-by-Step Tutorial

Be it the magic of anime world or Lady Gaga’s look from her famous ‘Bad Romance’ video – the anime look is one trend that has taken the fashion world by storm since its inception. Our favorite makeup go-to is the unrealistically large eyes, the essence of anime. In this post we show you how to achieve this trend without looking too ghastly!

Anime Eye Makeup Tutorial

Choose the Right Contact Lens

To achieve this anime girl eye makeup look, wear large circle lenses, a type of colored lenses that gives the wearer an enlarged, doe-eyed appearance. With a wide selection of Barbie and Manga contact lenses, the wider-than-life lenses are popular in pink and blue colors.

Tip: Make sure to get your eyes tested by an optometrist before choosing a pair of contact lens from reliable or legitimate sellers. And always put on the lenses before applying makeup.

Wear Falsies

Looks like no matter how many coats of mascara we wiggle, we could never satisfy our love for mile-long lashes. And since we have yet to find a perfect mascara wand to achieve that, we’ve turned to the next best thing: falsies.

To apply the false lashes, begin by selecting the right lashes for your eyes – we recommend She Uemura Fake Eyelashes for this. Once done, ensure your eyelid and lashes are clean of makeup so that you can curl your lashes and apply liquid eyeliner to your eyes to conceal the lash roots. Now take your false eyelashes and dip the tips in the glue and place them near your natural lashes. Make sure you don’t blink! Once the falsies are applied, let them dry for a couple of minutes before applying mascara to help blend them in with your real ones.

Prep Your Face

Once done selecting a good contact lens and falsies, apply a concealer, like MAC Pro Longwear Concealer to conceal, hydrate and brighten your dark circles under your eyes. Win. Not only that, the concealer also gives you an even skin tone base to work your makeup with. Double win. Now select a good primer to help your anime eye makeup last all day long without creasing. We recommend Bare Minerals Prime Time Eyelid Primer.

White Eyeliner

The next crucial step is to get a wide-eye effect. So begin with applying L’Oréal Paris Contour Khôl Pencil Eyeliner in Immaculate Snow under your eyelids as well as on top. Next, create a strong, wide streak by applying it to your lower eyelashes. This technique will enhance your eyes and give you that anime-look.

Getting Shadowed

Rich and dramatic, the black matte eye shadow from Givenchy Le Prisme Mono Eyeshadowis soft enough to wear, but still sexy enough to turn heads. Use a soft brush and apply the shadow from the far corner of the upper eyelid up to the brow bone, creating a winged corner. Then, using a small brush, line the outer corner of your upper lashes. Now blend evenly into the crease to add some depth to your eyes.

Apply Black Eyeliner

Once done, exaggerate the size of your eyes by flicking at the end with black liquid eyeliner. Draw a smooth, symmetrical, thick line across the upper lashes and extend it past the outside corner of the eye, into a cat-eye shade. Now flick a thin line of eyeliner below the lower lash line and connect it to the upper eyeliner to form a bigger wing. Fill in the space between the lower line and the waterline with a white eye pencil.

Finish Off The Look

Finish off the look by applying a light pink blush (try Tarte Amazonian 12 Hour Clay Blush) to the apples of your cheeks and a moisturizing tinted lip balm, such as Fresh Sugar Rosé Tinted Lip Treatment on the lips. Now wear the right wig and clothes, and become your favourite anime girl.
