Little has changed from the original design of cast iron waffle makers made by blacksmiths in the 1400s. Modern waffle makers are now electric with non-stick surfaces but the look of a finished waffle remains the same. Hot waffles and warm syrup in the morning are the perfect start to a day and an electric waffle iron make this treat quick and easy. Keep your waffle maker clean for perfect waffles every time.
Unplug the waffle maker, and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
Wipe away any oil that remains on the baking plate with a dry paper towel.
Brush crumbs from the plate with a soft toothbrush or soft-bristle brush.
Remove stuck-on batter with a rubber spatula. Knives or metal scrappers scratch non-stick surfaces.
Wipe the plate with a damp paper towel, and allow the surface to dry before storing.
Clean the exterior with a damp cloth, and use a dry cloth to dry.
Unplug the iron, and allow the waffle plates to cool before attempting to clean.
Brush crumbs off the plate with a toothbrush, and wipe excess oil off with a clean cloth.
Avoid washing or soaking the plate in water. Washing and soaking removes the seasoned finish from cast iron.
Apply cooking oil to the plate surface as needed to prevent waffles from sticking.
