Understanding Girls' Puberty: Physical Changes & Development

During puberty a girls body will go through many changes, but dot worry these changes are perfectly normal.

How Your Body Changes

Puberty lasts for several years as your body changes from a child to an adult. Hormones and other chemicals in your body produce physical and emotional changes, which may at times seem uncontrollable.

One of the first changes you will notice is your breast growing, usually between the ages of 8-13. One breast might grow larger than the other; but don’t worry, this is perfectly normal. Once your breasts start growing, it may be time to buy a bra.

Another change is hair growth; hair will start to grow under your arms, on your legs, and on your pubic area (privates). Your hips may also widen, and your waist may begin to slim down. Your stomach, bottom and legs may get larger also. These changes will make you look more like a woman, than a girl.

Another sign of puberty is acne (pimples – zits), blackheads, whiteheads, and inflamed areas of the skin. The best way to treat acne is to keep your face clean, don’t pop them, and seek help from a dermatologist.
