Weight Loss Strategies: Reducing Carbs Without Strict Dieting

I am male,45,220lbs.I must have a slow metabolism,because even though I count calories and keep to about 1500 per day,and take a daily walk,I am unable to lose weight.
Recently I cut out the carbs and am now losing weight! Problem is I am not a big meat eater,and grew up eating lots of bread and potatoes.I cant keep this up.How can I reduce the carbs which seem to be the problem,but still get my 'fix'? Thanks.
