QuestionAside from bad breath, thirst, and decreased appetite, are there any other signs of ketosis? I ask this because I am doing atkin's, have a decreased appetite, don't have a strong breath or thrist, so I was wondering if you could help me idendify when my body has entered ketosis.
AnswerChristine,
Typically, you would use a urine test to tell if you are burning ketones.
Otherwise:
Ketones give the breath a sickly, fruity odour like nail-varnish remover or pear-drops. Ketoacidosis (high levels of ketones with acidity) causes nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, confusion, and, if not rapidly treated, coma and death.
I would suggest caution, but then again, I'm not a fan of low-carb diets.
Best of luck.
