Questionhi,I have begun swimming, pilates and walking on a regular basis. I don't feel my muscles are recovering as well as they should even though i generally only exercise 4 days a week. I believe i'm not getting enough protiens to aid recovery. And is there anything else i should be looking into?
Can you fill me in on the good protien foods.
I'm also looking for a lentil burger recipe to try out, if you happen to havbe one handy.
Thankyou
lisa
AnswerHello Lisa!
Thank you for your nutrition question. It sounds like you have a good exercise routine going. I am going to send you a list of foods which are good sources of protein along with supplement which I believe would be helpful as well.
Here is a list of foods which are good sources of protein seperated into categories:
Meats: turkey, fish, chicken, beef, eggs,
Legumes: Green peas, lentils, chick peas, alfalfa sprouts, mung beans, and beans of all kinds (kidney, lima, aduki, navy beans, soy beans and products made from them; e.g., tofu, textured vegetable protein granules [Textured Soy Protein], tempeh, soy milks), peanuts, etc.
Nuts: Almonds, cashews, walnuts, filberts, pistachios, pecans, macadamias and nut butters made from these. Sunflower seeds, sesame seeds (including tahini butter made from ground sesame seeds), pumpkin seeds, etc.
Grains: Brown rice, oats (cereals - oatmeal, granola, etc.) millet, corn, barley, bulghur, wheat (including whole wheat bread, pastas, cereals, flour, etc.)
Greens: Broccoli, collards, spinach, etc.
There is also a great supplement which I recommend to my athlete patients called Juice Plus It contains the nutrients from 17 fruits and vegetables.
I believe you can benefit from it because when you are exercising you need the nutrients from fruits and vegetables to help give you the energy you need. The website to purchase it is http://www.juiceblend.com Please let me know if you need additional information on it.
Hope this helps
