Beets and Iron Deficiency: Do They Really Help with Anemia?

Question
Hi,my OB here in Germany just told me to eat red beets to cure my anemia. All other Germans agree with her. I checked on the internet and red beets are low in iron.
Are Germans correct? Do red beets have magical powers to correct anemia apart from their low iron content?
I can't take supplements, they make me nauseous. I eat clams whenever I find them fresh and the same with liver pate.
But I am still anemic, so magic is starting to sound good.

Do you tell your clients to eat red beets, too?

Linda

Answer
Linda,
To be honest I have never heard of beets for anemia.  BUT I did some looking around and found this from a reputable source:

They may just have something!  Its worth a try!
