Weight Gain Despite Exercise: Understanding Why & What To Do

Question
Hi there

Over the last two years I have put on about 3 stone, primarily due to a lack of exercise (I use to work out 5-6 times a week) and a slight decrease in good eating habits.

I am 5ft 10 inches and weigh 1st!

I invested in a personal trainer that I see 1/2 times a week for 90 minutes at a time and I also supplement that with another circuit class but i appear to have put on weight rather than lose it!! I've only been doing this for about 4 weeks but a few of my friends have also been working out, for about 2 weeks, and they already look slimmer!!

So I've started a no-carb diet...or very few carbs a day but I am always hungry!!

I usually have a banana/apple for breakfast with a low fat yoghurt, another piece of fruit for a mid-day snack, salad for lunch with either eggs or fish, and then dinner which is normally chicken/lamb with salad.

Do you think this will do the trick?? I would ideally want to get back to 12 stone by August, as i have a vacation booked!!

many thanks

Answer
HI Stephanie,

Always hungry works against you big time - it actually lowers your metabolism.

Worrying also lowers metabolism.

Please see www.premiumfuel.com for more info on how calories/fat metabolism varies, and foods you can fill yourself with so you do not go around hungry.

It is not about no or low carbs, it is about quality carbs.
