Question
britishh1.jpg britishh1.jpg
I purchased this ring which is a sapphire and diamond ring. Supposedly rose cut diamonds (tested as diamonds on a diamond tester), but I don't know if they are rose cut or not. But my question is about the date based on the british hallmarks. I know it must have been assayed in Birmingham from the anchor and is 18k gold. But the date mark throws me. I also don't understand why it is marked 7092. Any help would be appreciated. Diamonds are 2.5mm and sapphire is 4mm. Thanks. Joyce
AnswerJoyce I have found the Birmingham Assay Office a plethora of information about old hallmarks from England, their link that might answer your question is:
http://www.theassayoffice.co.uk/date_letters.html
As for the rose cut this site could not say it better:http://www.thediamondcuts.com/rose-cut-diamond.html
As for the 7092 I might guess that could be referring to a weight of stones? but they would have to be very thick to obtain that weight at 4mm perhaps it could be a total weight. The Birmingham website does have an email link for questions directly if you like.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.
