QuestionDear Jeanette,
I recently took a ring in to get resized that my boyfriend bought me while he was in Kuwait. When I went in, the customer service lady immediately told me that she didn't think the stones were real. (I didn't even ask.) She said she wasn't sure, but she thought they weren't. My question is, is there a way for me to tell (or at least have a better guess) as to the reality of the stones without getting it appraised? (It's a bit embarrasing to have to walk in to ask on something a loved one cared enough to pick out and send you.)
I would enclose a picture, but there is not a link for an attachment, and it will not let me copy and paste it. It is a gold ring with a design like a heart. There are "diamonds" in a channel type setting (?)outlining the heartish shape, and four stones in the middle. The stones are yellow, purple, pink, and orange.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
P.S. if there is a way to send the picture, I will be happy to, to give you a better idea. thanks.
AnswerHi
There is no way for me to tell because I cant see it. You do need to go to a jeweler that is a Gemologist.
AGS web site or Jewelers of America web site will help you locate a jeweler in your area. The ring must be tested and looked at under mafnification to examine the gemstones.
SIncerely
