Understanding a Thick Endometrial Lining: Causes & Concerns

Question
I have had heavy menstrual bleeding for about 6 months and had an ultrasound a few weeks ago. The ultrasound indicated my endometrium lining is approx. 12 mm thick. What does this mean. Also, everything I've read on the internet refers to post-menopausal women, and I'm only 36. I also was diagnosed with mild dysplasia and am scheduled for cryosurgery on 08/04/06. My doctor is going to also do a biopsy of the uterus due to the thick lining. I've never had any "female" probelms before and am in good shape and good health. I have been told the mild dysplasia will probably be taken care of entirely after the cryosurgery since it is mild; however, I don't know what to think of the thick endometrium lining and what it might indicate. I am just worried and would like some insight on what it means since I have to wait another 3 1/2 weeks before my procedures. Can you shed any insight on what this thick endometrium lining and my age of 36 could indicate? Thanks for your time.

the endometrium is the mucous membrane that lines the insides of the uterus[womb];
the endometrium changes throughout the menstrual cycle. it becomes thick and rich with blood vessels to pre-pare for pregnancy. if the womean does not get pregnant,part of the endometruim is shed,causing menstrual bleeding.

this is why your doctor is going to do the procedure in august. he most likely doing the biopsy to check for abnormal cells,and cancer.

indeed you could be startying menopause,i did at 29,so it is a chance.

you just need to relax,and dont get upset over what i had told you above.
it is going to be ok. keep your chin up; smile.....
