Determine Your Body Shape: A Measurement Guide

Question
My hip measurement(around my butt) is 45.5 inches. I measured around my hip bone and it is 36 inches. Do hip bones have anything to do with anything when you are trying to figure out your body shape, because they say to measure around the widest part of your hips. My waist is 35 inches, so my hip measurement is bigger, but my hips look smaller than if not the same size as my hips. My chest measurement is 43 inches, but i have broad shoulders, like 46 inches. Do shoulders have anything to do with anything when it comes to figuring out your body shape? And i have a large frame, and i weigh 185 but it doesn't look like i do. I look smaller than i actually weigh, but if i have a large frame does that mean that i will always be a little thick? I don't mind being thick, i'd actually prefer it. Thank you for answering my questions, i know i have a lot.

Answer
Hi Alex,

Your height plays a role as well. But I'm going to presume you are speaking generally. According to the measurements you've provided me it seems you have medium bone structure. In terms of body shape if you have wide shoulders and wide hips it generally means you have somewhat of an hourglass figure. It's all relative of course. And then you have to take into account fat and muscle. If you have a large frame you are much more likely to be a little thicker. I've seen people with large frames diet down to become quite thin but it takes much more work. And some will never hit certain numbers purely because of their bone structure. If you are looking smaller than what you weigh then your proportions must be pretty good. Hope this helps...if you want more tips why don't you sign up to my free newsletter at www.xfitness.com.au.
