QuestionI am 22/female and obese.
In January 2011 I weighed 289 lbs. As of today, July 5 2011, I weigh 260 lbs.
my doctor tells me I'm not losing weight fast enough, and that if I worked harder I could have lost more weight by now. maybe that is true.
I work at a grocery store part time, between 3 and 5 days a week.
I work in produce. I stock shelves, clean shelves, zone and cull produce.
The boxes of produce weigh anywhere from 5 pounds to 95 pounds (rutabagas weigh 95 lbs in a plastic crate. I can not lift these by myself)
I also have to pull freight with a jack, which weighs anywhere from 1200 to 2800 lbs, at least for 15 minutes a work day.
I got a pedometer and have been taking it to work. Here are the last 7 days I recorded:
13799 steps
11088 steps
15127 steps
13620 steps
7766 steps
6590 steps
5923 steps (today so far)
I am getting stronger, I'm toning up my arms and legs, my butt is getting slimmer, and I've lost some inches off my waist. I was a size 22 in women's jeans, now I am a size 16 in women's jeans.
but my doctor says work doesn't count because I don't do it every day. I'm quite proud but now I feel like I'm not working hard enough.
I drink at least 30 oz of water every day and I have weaned myself from sweet tea to almost unsweetened tea. About 1 part sweet tea to 5 parts unsweetened. I've almost completely eliminated soda from my diet. I drink sprite zeros.
I eat big breakfasts, medium lunches and small dinners. I've regulated my sleep patterns so that I'm generally in bed by 10 pm (except when I work nights) and I'm up by 7 am. I eat fast food only once or twice a month. I've been trying to eliminate meats from my diet and eat vegetarian foods.
I do have a metabolic disorder and insulin resistance. I take metformin for it.
So what else can I do? In my free time I play on the computer, read/write and do yardwork. I love gardening.
AnswerHi Deseiai,
Great job on the weight loss-congratulations!!
You should join a gym or workout at home-spending 45-60 minutes continuously on weight training/cardio 3-4 times per week.
Working in the yard is good because you are outside and are getting fresh air and sunshine.
You just need to be consistent with your eating and exercising-sometimes the weight will come off slowly-but as long as you are losing weight/fat-that is fine.
Keeep up the good work.
Feel free to email me if you have any more questions.
