VBAC After a C-Section: Concerns About a Large Baby & Tearing

Question
I had a c-section with my last child.  I was in labor for 22 hours and a lot of those hours was without pain medication because I progressed so slowly. I was also given pitocin to induce my labor and it still progressed slowly.  I was recomended to have a c-section around 6 cm dilated.  She ended up being 9 lbs and 7 ounces.  I am expecting another child in August and they tell me he is big.  They believe he'll be 10 lbs. or more.  I am concerned about tearing and having an episiotomy. Is it still possible for me to have a VBAC with such a large baby?  Or should I schedule a C-section?

Answer
Hello Candy- it is absolutely possible to vaginally deliver a baby that size. You MUST educate yourself very well to accomplish this- it will NOT just happen- you need to know how to work with your body. Go to a website called Nancy Wainer Cohen- she is THE expert on VBACs- she even made up the name. She wrote two books that you MUST read and FAST- you can find info about them on her site. You might also enjoy a site called BirthLove. All the best- Cheri.
