AnswerWhen artificial insemination is attempted, the only problem would be a blockage tht may possibly be found in the fallopian tubes, which will not allow the sperm to travel up the tube and fertilize the ovum (egg) that is waiting at the end of the fallopian tube. First (before a D&C) a "Hysterosalpingogram) should be done. That is an X-ray that will allow us to see what part of the reproductive system is blocked (if it really is blocked). This includes the uterine cavity and the tubes. If the tubes are blocked, there are procedures to unblock the tubes. If the uterus is blocked, a D&C may be necessary. A D&C is merely a "dilatation and currettage" which is a procedure where the cervix (the opening of the uterus) is dilated, and then the inside wall of the uterus is scraped (currettage) until it is clean and empty. It is done under general anesthesia and is very common and does not have much risk except if it is done by someone who does not know how to do it. It may or may noi aid in conception. If you have any doubt about the doctors, get a second opinion from another gynecologist. Good Luck.
