Lexapro & Pregnancy: Risks & Considerations for Expectant Mothers
QuestionI am 26 years old. I do not have any children. My last menstrual period was September 8. My husband and I are trying to get pregnant. I had a miscarriage in June. I am taking the anti depressant Lexapro. I wanted to know if it will affect my baby during pregnancy. If you were my doctor would you recommend that I stay on it or get off. I don't want to go through another miscarriage. Please help. Thank you so much!
AnswerI don't like my patients to continue antidepressants during pregnancy. However, if you ABSOLUTELY need the medication in order to function, then you can continue the medication. If you can avoid it during the first trimester, so much the better. Discuss it with your obstetrician.
