Anemia in Pregnancy: Risks & Statistics - What You Need to Know
QuestionI am in my 27th week of pregnancy and have tested "positive" for anemia for the second time (the first was during the first trimester). I take
Vitron C once a day and will now begin taking it
twice a day. I am very concerned about premature labor and/or about having a low birth weight baby. Could you please tell me the statistics/relationship between anemia and these complications? I think my nurse said my iron level is around 10.
Thank you,
Emily Mee
AnswerIf you have a hemablobin level of 10, you are definitely anemic. However, Vitamin C is not helpful for anemia. You must take iron supplementation every day. Anemia will not cause premature labor or a low birth weight baby. Start taking iron supplements and all should be fine. Anemia can cause fatigue.
