Epidural Use in Fetal Death in Utero (FDIU) Labor: Best Practices & Information

Question
I am an RN in labor and delivery and I was trying to find information on epidurals for the laboring FDIU (fetal death in utero) patient?  At the hospital I work at the head of anesthesia refuses to give laboring FDIU patient's epidurals for pain management.  I was wondering what the practice is at other facilities in regards to this.  Or do you know where I can get more information on this subject?

Answer
I can't speak for other hospitals, but in the hospitals where I practice, epidurals are readily offered to patients who are laboring with an intrauterine fetal demise. In fact, since there is no worry about the fetal status, any form of anesthesia (Stadol, epidural, Demeral, etc) is appropriate.
