QuestionHello,
I'm 27, have no children yet. I've had an ectopic pregnancy(keyhole surgery) and the gyno told me to use Nuvaring, as it is the best option (I shouldn't use heavy pills as I've had an operation on my liver as well, when I was 16)
There is just one problem: I've tried Nuvaring once, and I suddenly had lots of acne on my face and neck, which only disappeared when I stopped using it... Is acne a common side effect of the Nuva ring, and if so, is it persistent or should I stick with it until it lessens? Is there more progesteron in Nuva ring than in pills such as Yasmin, and is that why it provokes acne? There are some very light pills such as mirella (sold in Belgium, don't know about UK or other countries), which have about the same amount of hormones as Nuva ring apparently...Do they also provoke acne and if not would they be a better option?
Thank you very much for replying to all these questions, I know it's a lot!
Em
AnswerLow dose birth control pills have the same amount of progesterone and estrogen (nearly) as the Nuvaring, the patch, Yasmin, Othotricyclne, etc. After the "first pass" through the body, the hormones all pass through the liver. The best combination for the prevention of acne is OrthoTrycycine.
