Tubal Ligation: Pregnancy Risks, Reversal, and Modern Techniques

Question
can U have your tubes tied and becomes pregnant, and could they come un tied within 5 yr. afther you get them tide, and is it true that they started a new way to tied tubes in yr. 2000.

Answer
Dear Audria,

*First*
Please accept my apologies for the delay in answering. Our cable (TV and internet) went out early Saturday and after several BOGUS stories, the tech came today and regretfully informed us we were mistakenly shut off for our NEIGHBOR's non-payment. So... as frustrated as all of you may be at having to wait longer for an answer, try being me with a husband without football all weekend for apparently no valid reason!!!

Now to your question...

Occasionally a woman still gets pregnant, despite having had her tubes tied properly. The tubes can evolve in such a way as to try to heal themselves, and sometimes a tract develops that allows egg and sperm to meet. There are many different methods in which to perform a tubal ligation but, regardless of whether the tubes are cut, burned, clipped, banded, or tied, is considered to be about 99% effective, meaning that about 1% of women will conceive an unplanned pregnancy after tubal ligation. This failure occurs slightly more frequently in younger women. There simply is no 100% guarantee for any existing form of tubal ligation even though the failure rate remains extremely small.

I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well and again, thank you for your patience.
