QUESTION: Ok, Thank you for your timely answer. I know that normally the luteal phase is 14 days. However, what is the shortest amount of time a luteal phase can be to support pregnancy?
AnswerDear Megan
The durattion of the luteal phase of the cycle should be 14 in all normal women looking for a pregnancy. This means that, in a woman with a cycle lenth of 28 days, the luteal pahse is 14 and proliferative is 14. A woman with a cycle length of 24 has a luteal phase of 14 and proliferative of 10...etc. It always comes on the expense of the proliferative phase.
A luteal phase less than 14 days is associated with miscarriages. In some cases with less than 14 days luteal, pregnancy continues with a hormonal support by natural progesterone or human chorionic gonadotrophins.
I hope that these information are helpful.
