Metformin and Pregnancy: Safety & Weight Management During First Trimester

I just found out I am pregnant. I was treated for PCOD with metformin 500md BD. Should I continue metformin until 3 months of pregnancy or should I stop the drug.

Also I am on the heavy side with a BMI of 32- 182 pounds and 5 feet 4 inches tall. My Doctor advised me to lose weight before conception but I failed. Is it OK for me to eat high protein, low carbohydrate diet and try to lose some weight in the 1st trimester or should I just not try to lose any more weight?

At the current state of knoweledge, metformin have no role in pregnancy. It is used to help you get pregnant but once you are, there is no need to continue.

As for diet, the same applies. Losing weight helps you to get pregnant but it is not advisable to lose weight.
