QuestionQUESTION: Hello my name is Joyce,im 25.when i was 17 yo i was heavily bleeding so my parents took me to the doctor.i was told i have Polycystic Ovarian Disease, and hormonal imbalance.i would like to use birth control now, since i recently gave birth to my son,3 months.i would like to avoid anything based on hormons.
do you know anything like that?
thanks alot!
ANSWER: Hi Joyce. I guess you know you are fortunate to have been able to get pregnant if you really have POD. Have you had that diagnosis confirmed by a recent examination? The only way of regulating pregnancies that I would ever recommend is Natural Family Planning. There are no hormones involved. If you want me to help you find out more about NFP, let me know. When you reply, let me know if you have ever taken birth control pills; how regular are your periods; are you married; are you interested in an abstinence based program that will help you know and understand your body?

QUESTION: Hi Brigid, thanks for your reply.I did not had that diagnosis confirmed recently.Yes I know I am fortunate that I got pregnant, for years was impossible for me to get pregnant altough I tried constantly.
Yes I am married and I would appreciate if you could help me to find out more about NFP.
Thanks alot!
ANSWER: Joyce: I just went to a lecture by a woman who works for the Pope Paul VI Institute in Omaha NE. At this place, they do NaProTechnology to help women understand and improve their fertility. They specialize in situations like yours, with POD. They offer training and medical consultations which can be done over the phone.
They have a special way of charting your cycles so you get in touch with them to begin to work out a plan. As you are interested in spacing your children, now is a great time to look at what they have for you and to find out how your body is working now, after the baby and whether or not you are likely to have another pregnancy. I highly recommend them. here is the website: www.naprotechnology.com
the phone number for consultations is 402-505-8942. you can also email them at education@popepaulvi.com
I hope this helps. Because of your diagnosis, I think this is the best approach for you. Let me know what you find out, if you want. I'd be interested to know.

QUESTION: Thanks alot.I sent them an email, however I live in The Netherlands.I wonder if you could guide me with some advices or at least some links where I can find advices for the following issue:
I was told I am not allowed to take birth control pills because of the hormons.
Last year I got pregnant ,luckily and I have a 3 and half months old baby. One month after delivery I got my periods, but after that it stopped, for 2 months now.However,1-2 weeks ago I got again the same severe low abdominal pain, lasted for 3-5 minutes. Two days after, few blood drops on my panties. After that, nothing again.I am a bit concerned about this.
I would like to find out more about hormone imbalance and diet I should follow.
Am I allowed to consume soy products, such as soy milk or soy yoghurt?
Am I allowed to use organic low fat cow or goat milk or fat free?what about organic cow milk yoghurt?
Am I allowed to use Milk thistle seed extract supplements?
I desperatelly need some advices and I hope I will hear from you! Thanks in advance !
Joyce
AnswerJoyce: If you are breastfeeding your baby, it is likely that the stopping and starting of your periods is because of the nursing. Continue to nurse as often as you and the baby desire and this will help suppress the estrogen hormone which is what starts your period again.
Either way, it takes a while for your body to regain it's normal balance after a baby. some women get their periods back within 6 weeks and other don't get them for months or a year or more. Usually, the nursing is what keeps the period away. It is a good way to space your children and to help with the hormones in the POD condition that you have.
I don't really know a whole lot about what to do about the soy products and milk. I'm not a fan of soy, so I don't use any. If you have noticed problems or improvements with either of those items, I would pay attention to that. I don't see any problem with Milk Thistle supplements. I like to recommend Vitamin D for everyone (5000 units daily) and omega-3 fish oil is good also.
I hope you hear back from the NaProTechnology people in Nebraska. I'm sure they will be more helpful than I am. Enjoy your baby!
