IVF Possibility at 38 with Prior Infertility Issues | Toronto

Question
Good evening sir,

I am new to infertility forums ,so please excuse me if I sound confused.

I have had both  my tubes removed due to ectopic pregnancies when I  was young (21), and also had cysts and fibroids and adnemyosis(with a suggestion of a hysterectomy at 31) . I do not have any children yet and I am soon to be  38 years old .

Is it still possible at my age and with all my troubles to try and have children via i.v.f.

I live in Toronto ,Canada ,and I have heard that ohip will pay for up to three attempts at ivf , but i have to pay for the drugs out of pocket because i do not have drug plan .

I am confused and concerned and i would like to know what my options are because i will be getting married soon and i would like to start as soon as possible.

Also is it possible i could bring my husbands sperm back from a carribean country for  the ivf procedure? He would not be with me for about a year ,while i am getting older!

Answer
Hello,

Yes, it is still possible for you to become pregnant and IVF is your best and only option.  I would recommend that you have it done as soon as you can.

In terms of your husband, he can go to a nearby sperm bank and bank his sperm (have it frozen).  You IVF clinic can then arrange to have the sperm transferred to them.  The other option is for him to vacation to where you are and deposit the sperm directly to your IVF center.  They can then use the frozen sperm to fertilize your eggs at the time of IVF.

I hope this answers your questions,

Sincerely,
