QuestionQUESTION: Hi Dr,
Selly here from Sydney Australia. I've been going through the IVF cycle really well, everything to plan when the night of the trigger I took a less amount of what i needed (i only took 10%) due to mis-communication. This resulted in a cancelled IVF cycle.
My question to you is when am I able start to try naturally, can it be immediate or is there an amount of time I must wait. I had a very small amount of the trigger (Ovidrel) on Monday night 7.30pm and was due for egg pick up on Wednesday 7am. What would happen if I was to try in the next few days?
I hope you understand my situation and questions, as you may understand my mind is not thinking straight as I was very close to the end of my IVF cycle.
Thank You,
Selly
ANSWER: Hello Selly from Australia,
First of all, I don't know why your doc cancelled the cycle. There would still be the possibility of egg maturation from the Ovidrel that you took AND from any exogenous LH that your body produced. I certainly would take the risk and complete the IVF. The biggest risk from insufficient HCG is that the eggs would not be mature, but they could be matured in the lab (that technology does exist currently#. But even if there are only a few mature eggs 1-5, that still would be adequate to complete the IVF cycle and get a pregnancy.
If you want to convert to trying with intercourse #I presume there was a reason for doing IVF that superceded trying naturally), you would start intercourse the day after the HCG and have intercourse once per day, one ejaculation per day for three days after HCG.

QUESTION: Thank You so much for replying so quickly. I will give you more information on my health.
I am 26yrs old I have mild edometriosis, hubby has low motility, have been trying to conceive for 3 yrs. Thats why IVF was introduced. For 4months I was on Zoladex to suppress my edometriosis. They were also concerned for hyper-stimulation but still had booked me in for egg pick but due to the amount of Ovidrel thats why it was cancelled as it wouldnt have been enough. I was told that I cannot have intercourse this week as this could produce to have multiple pregnancies as I had alot of ready eggs and that they all could ovulate. I believe that I can fall pregnant without IVF.
AnswerHello Again,
Certainly if you had lots of follicles, they are correct that there could be a significantly increased risk for a multiple pregnancy. I still think that they should have tried the retrieval, however.
