Understanding Fertility Issues: Follicle Problems & Vasectomy

Question
Hi,
What i would like to know is if my boyfriend and i can still conceive a child even though my folicules won't rupture and he has a vasectomy from 2 years ago. it doesn't matter if we have to go to a fertility center. i just want to make sure that it is possible, that i will be able to conceive.
Thank You,

claudia

Answer
Hello Claudia from the U.S.,

If your follicles don't rupture, that means you are not giving off an egg and so pregnancy cannot occur because the egg is needed to get into the tube for fertilization to occur.

If your partner has had a vasectomy, that means that he is not secreting any sperm with intercourse, and again, that means that the sperm cannot get to the egg for fertilization to occur.

For these reasons, fertility treatment would be indicated.  For you, you would need to undergo a treatment procedure to stimulate follicle development and ovulation with fertility medications.  However, because your partner is "fixed" he needs to undergo some sort of treatment as well.  His options are to have his vasectomy reversed, a surgery to attempt to reconnect the tube carrying the sperm so that you can accomplish pregnancy naturally, or he can undergo a procedure where the sperm are extracted directly from the testicle called TESE.  This then makes sperm available to inject directlly into the eggs harvested from you by a treatment called IVF.
That is what I would recommend as the best treatment.

I would recommend that you go to a fertility clinic so that they can discuss your options in detail including the costs, the pregnancy rate and how the procedures are done.

Good luck,
