Ovidrel Effectiveness: Does it Work on the First Try?

QUESTION: Hi docter, i am going 4 my scans friday  after taking fertomid tablets since last week wednesday. I would like to knw wen they say i must take my ovidrel will it work the first time?

ANSWER: Hello Abieda,

Ovidrel is a hormone called HCG and is used to trigger ovulation.  Only a single injection is required and it should work each time, as long as the follicle size is appropriate (>18 mms).

QUESTION: Thankz 4 your answer but they stoped the treatment now after they found 2 small cists on my left ovary and no egg was present, does this mean that i will hav 2 wait much longer 2 go on treatment again?

Hello Again,

First of all, there is NO WAY for anyone to know if there is an egg within a follicle or not.  That technology does not exist.

Secondly, if you took Fertomid, that would induce the growth of ovulatory follicles, which is the goal.  If there was no cysts when you started, that would mean the "cysts" they found are pre-ovulatory follicles and if they are the appropriate size for ovulation (18-22mms), then HCG should be given to induce ovulation.  I don't understand why they cancelled the cycle.

Thirdly, since they cancelled the cycle, you will need to wait until your next period to begin a new cycle, but you might want to look around for a better doctor, preferably a fertility specialist.
