QuestionI went for 2 untrasounds about a month or more apart, then an MRI. My Gyno is referring me to a Gyno/Oncologist. My appt is on the 27th.
Impression:
Complex left ovarian cystic lesion. Imaging characteristics favor an ovarian cystic neoplasm (serous or Mucinous, Cystadenoma/Cystadenocarcinoma. No ascetites or Pelvic Lymphphadenopathy. CA 125 and surgical consult.
What are they saying here.
My sister in law works for a Gyno and said if they felt it was serious, I would have been taken in sooner. Is this the case?
AnswerHi Barbara,
It sounds to me as if they have found something during an ultrasound, but an ultrasound can't confirm if it's benign or malignant. You have no swelling of the lymphnodes, which is a very good thing.
They are suggesting a CA-125 test which is a tumor marker test. Elevated levels can indicate ovarian cancer, however, this test is not 100% reliable.
Exploratory surgery may be recommended with a biopsy.
Best of luck to you,
Lisa Fayed
