Persistent Itching and Burning on Upper Back: Possible Causes & Relief

I have had a spot on my upper back just under my shoulder blade that itches several times a day for about a year.  Just a couple of weeks ago, I started having a burning sensation that seems to come from the inside out.  There is no bump or rash on my back, but it seems to itch almost constantly.  The burning occurs about 2 -3 times a day.  Any ideas of what might cause this?

Sounds like a type of neuropathy or nerve irritation.  Difficult to treat.  It may be more a nuisance than a real problem.  There are pills you can take, but by your description that may be overkill.  You can try over the counter capsaicin cream.  For small areas, that may help.
