Understanding Male Pattern Baldness & Propecia Expectations

Question
I know you're not a dermatologist, but the one person on this site that is tends to give very brief and honestly not very insightful answers. I am 30 and male and have lots of hair thinning on the top of my head. I have been using extra strength Rogaine for a few months, and Rogaine of one type or another for nearly a year. My bald spot still looks incredibly bad. I don't have medical insurance and would like to consider the hair loss pill Propecia, but don't know what results to expect from it. I expect ultimately I will end up using both the pill and the topical treatment, but am curious to know how effective the pill would be on its own in general compared to Rogaine? Should it be much more powerful considering that it is prescription, or will it be about equal to the effects of Rogaine except effecting more of the hairs Rogaine has no real effect on? Also I was considering that maybe I don't get enough B6 and folic acid which might help with hair?
