Sore Cheek from Biting: Causes, Relief & When to See a Dentist

Question
Sometimes when I am chewing my food I inadvertently bite my cheek (the inside of my cheek), and it beomes sore and hurts for about ten days. Is there any over-the-counter medication that I could apply to the inside of my cheek? Thank you very much. Al Brown

Answer
Al,

Would be good to f/u with a dentist to make sure bite alignment is OK and also there is no evidence of oral buccal mucosa pathology (cancer, hyperplasia, etc.)  As far as OTC treatment, would swish and spit with warm salty water and you can use throat lozengers such as Cepacol or Halls to help with pain and inflammation.
