Question---
Thank you..--I am going to have the lap done. My doc said that she has performed many operations. Just wanted to try other methods first. Went for my pre op consult today. She was very understanding on why I wanted this. So, she agreed that it was wise. Yes, I am on the pill. Have been since 18. The motrin I take when I am hurting, but this time I can't because of the surgery. Oh, well. I go in to the OR in 22 days. I will see then what is going on. So, is the risk of punturing something high? She said that if she notices anything like that she will have to fix it before I get off the table. Even if that includes opening me up. I just need to know if I am ok or not. Thanks. And I will be letting everyone know soon. My fiance is more nervous about the procedure than I am. This is my first surgery that will involve cutting. Does it hurt?--------------------

Question -
For the past 1 1/2 I have been having constant pain in my pelvic region, occasionally blood in urine, pain during sex, and once every month constantly I get the crampy bloated feeling and can't do anything but sit and hold a heating pad on me. And when I have this pain I also have pain while urinating. My family seems to have nothing but cases of this. My mom and my aunt has everything taken out because of endo. My OBGYN wants to try everything but surgery. I told her I would rather have surgery to rule it out. Is that wise. I am 22 years old. And really want to have kids one day with my fiance. Please help..

Tiffany,
I know how you feel. I went to so many doctors who didn't believe me when I described the pain. I think a lap is the answer for you now. Maybe your doctor hasn't performed very many and doesn't feel confidant. Have you seen anyone else?
If you do find a doctor who will do the surgery, be sure to ask how many women they treat with endo and if he/she will remove what endo they can, should they find it.
Have you tried birth control? Or try taking ibuprofen a day or two before your period. Also, go to www.centerforendo.com and research. I had surgery there a few years ago and feel wonderful. They remove all the endo, to the roots. They just don't laser the top layer like most surgeons. They treat only women with endo, so they know their stuff.
Good luck and don't give up, there's help out there. You just have to be persistant and knowledgable.
Take care,
Kaye
AnswerTiffany,
A lap is out patient and you'll have 2-3 tiny incisions. One in your belly button and 1 or 2 in the pelvic region, depending on your surgeon's technique.
You will be a little sore, but will feel better in a couple of days. I had my first lap on a Friday and returned to work the following Monday. I did go in for my second lap and ended up having a Laparotomy, but that was due to a cyst that was larger than expected. I don't think it's a common thing that happens, though, so don't worry.
One tip I did learn is to be sure and ask the doctor to release all the gas they use to expand your belly to avoid shoulder pain. I experienced the shoulder/collarbone pain with my last surgery and it can be avoided.
I wasn't permitted to take any medication for two weeks prior to my surgery in Atlanta and I started my period on the trip down. I bought Therma-care self heating pads and they were great. You should try them, they may help.
Good luck and you'll be fine. No one looks forward to surgery, but you'll be glad you did it. Also, you're still young, so don't get discouraged about conceiving. I conceived 6 months after my first surgery.
One more thing, make sure she checks your tubes for blockage.
Take care,
Kaye
