Understanding IBS, Endometriosis & Ovarian Lesions: A Second Opinion

Question
Hi I asked you a question a week or so ago and you gave a great answer. I have another question I went to an obgyn today he said I could have IBS or endo he said he wanted me to start lupron and hormone pills right away but he did not order an unltasould to look at my cysts and said that cysts are normal but the thing is they don't know for sure that it is a cyst it was a ct and it said it was leasions that could be cysts. I asked about exploritory surgery and he said he does not do sugery so he wants to treat it and if the treatment works he wants to send me for sugery. That does not make sense to me to treat something with out checking it does that sound wrong to you? Also he was one of those docs that don't listen to you he saw my lap scar on my belly from my gallbladder removal and said oh they allready checked you out and I told him it was only a gallbladder removal and it took only 20 mins to do so I did not think they looked at anything else. Also he looked at the test results that found free floating fluid and he told me that was normal for all women is that true?

Answer
Dear Heidi,

How are you feeling today? I hope you're feeling better.
I'm glad you went to the OBGYN - however, the one you're seeing seems to be doing things a little backwards. lol You've been told that you "could" have IBS, and that you "could" have endo and so decides to treat you with "lupron and hormone pills". These treatments will most likely help you tremendously with some of your symptoms, but generally the first step would be to do an ultrasound- then set you up an appointment for exploratory surgery because this isn't a guessing game and your life could be at risk. The pain you've described to me that you're experiencing sounds like much more than IBS symptoms. Also treating someone with medications while "not knowing" exactly what is being treated is absolute ignorance because this could lead to further complications. I personally know a few doctors in my area who prefer to treat the symptoms before they rule out the cause and these doctors and their lack of knowledge and neglect have earned them a slack reputation as murderers. A good doctor would refer you to an experienced surgeon and go from there ASAP...This doctor wants to treat your symptoms with Lupron and then if the Lupron and hormone treatments work refer you to a surgeon .??? I would certainly rate this method of treatment highly backwards. You mentioned that he was one of those docs that don't listen. The lack of communication between a doctor and his patient is the first real warning that he's a waste of time and money. If he's evading your questions or complaints-leave and don't turn back... Heidi, he read your test results explaining the free floating fluid-and had no idea what that meant. Is free floating  fluid normal for ALL women? Well-I don't know if that's true because "I've personally - never - been diagnosed with it". ( I strongly recommend a second opinion concerning your treatment)
