QuestionI am having my fourth baby in a few weeks. I am about 37 weeks along. I had an ultrasound yesterday because I am suddenly measuring 5 weeks ahead, and the baby is fine, just big. (I have 10 pound babies with ease so I am not worried about that.)
My question is this. At the ultrasound, the tech noted that the baby's head is pressed firmly against my cervix. With all three of my children, the head was "floating" as I went into labor, so much so that they did not artificially rupture my membranes for fear of cord prolapse.
Is this what they refer to as engagement - the head pressed against the cervix? I haven't noticed much change in the way I am carrying, except for having more menstrual like cramps along with BH contractions. (It certainly doesn't feel like labor yet though!)
Thank you in advance!
AnswerRose,
I would say yes, it sounds like the baby is engaged into your pelvis. Usually with the head engaged, you may feel more pressure down in your bottom. Your doctor will be able to tell better with your next cervical exam. He or she will tell you what station the baby is at. Good luck!!
