QuestionI recently found out that I am pregnant, about 2 weeks after conception, and don't want to let my work know for personal reasons. I am military in the aviation field exposing myself to jet engine noise about 3 to 4 hours a day. Will the noise affect the baby in the first trimester? Thank you.
AnswerHi Pat,
No one knows exactly at what point the baby begins to hear sounds inside the womb, or just exactly how the sounds register to them. Doctors have estimated it's not until the 2nd or 3rd trimester that their hearing develops, and even then it is muffled by the fluid in your womb.
I would not worry about loud noises so much early in pregnancy, however later on it could potentially be an issue. Discuss it with the doctor later on and see if they can't arrange it so you can work in a quieter place.
Congratulations on your pregnancy!
