Loud Music Exposure During Pregnancy: Risks and Safety

Question
HI Andrea, would you say that the music you were around was very loud as some bands can be quite soft and control but ours was really really loud.

Hi,

I play the piano for my church and stand next to the drums. It can be very very loud and I am about 21 months pregnant and a little concern. Hope someone can let me know if it is okay or I should stop meanwhile.

Also what I don't really know scientifically if my baby can be affected by very loud noices. I understand that they can only pick up low registers but to what extend will it be dangerous?

Please advice.

Hello,

I don't think that your baby will be affected in a bad way at all.  I was around drums my entire pregnancy and it didn't affect either one of my twins.  The only kind of noises that could affect would be those that would bother your ears as well, like being close to a jet taking off, etc...and those are VERY loud noises and normally a person doesn't go around them.
As far as the scientific aspect, I'm not sure about that since I am not a doctor.  You should ask your ob/gyn for advice on this.
Take care!

Andrea

Answer
Hello,

Well, the drums were hit as loud as they could be.  I don't think the sound of the band will bother your baby.  I guess the best thing to go by is if the sound is too loud when you plug your ears, it's too loud for the baby.  You have to consider that your baby is in a watery environment, and protected by your uterus and your body.  So, I guess the best thing would be to plug your ears, and if it bothers you, it may bother the baby.
