Post-C-Section Recovery & Planning for Future Pregnancy

Question
Hi,
I recently had an elective csection due to low amniotic fluid and my son had to be delivered immediately.

Unfortunately he lived for only 18 hrs, my consultant has told me that based on my age and medical background that I am able to start trying again between 6-8 wks after surgery. My husband and I have decided to wait 4 mths as a safety precaution?

Can you advise on the general timelines for a repeat csection as we do not wish to have a VBAC?

Thanks

Answer
Hi Tanya,

First of all, I'm very sorry about the loss of your little son. I have lost an infant myself and I know how heartbreaking it can be.

As to your question, the longer you wait between c-sections, the better. I'm not sure about the UK, but in the United States, the general recommendation is to allow at least a year between babies. Having babies too close together could increase risk of uterine rupture due to the lack of time to heal from the prior incision.

All the best to you, and I will keep you in my prayers for speedy healing, for your heart and your body.
