Mirena & Weight Gain: A Postpartum User's Experience

Question
Hi,
I had my son 2 years ago and had only used birth control pills up until this past Feb when I got the Mirena. When I got it placed, I weighed 109 lbs- which was great bc it was at my pre-pregnancy weight (finally!). Unfortunately, I have gained 20 lbs since Feb.

I did go thru an episode of depression around April-May and remember eating more than usual-comfort eating. I came out of the depression and got my activity and diet back in order and also started taking cytomel for hypothyroidism and depression. I should say that even when depressed, I didnt sit around and eat unhealthy stuff- cookies and fries- no. I just ate a little more than what I usually ate. An extra snack during the day. Maybe two if I stayed up late.

Anyway, I completely expected that some of the weight would come off from a combination of better (lower calorie) diet and the cytomel to stimulate my metabolism.

Unfortunately, no weight came off and I gained more. 2 lbs in August and 2 lbs in September. I haver gained weight this fast and this much except when I was pregnant so this is unusual for me. I think back to what could possibly be causing this and the only thing substantive is that I got the Mirena places in Feb. I only gained a few pounds here and there and didnt worry too much about it until it got to 15, 18, 20 lbs.

Do you know the likelihood of Mirena causing weight gain? I think I am going to have it removed this week just to see. That brings me to my second question and that is if you have any other methods to recommend if I have the Mirena removed? I'd like something semi-permanent and doesnt cause weight gain (!)

Thanks so much for any help you can give!
