Birth Control Pill Effectiveness: When is Protection Achieved?

i just started on the pill and want to know how long it takes before i can have sex and be protected by it.

Answer
If you started on the first day of menstruation you are protected from pregnancy from day one.

If you started on day 1-7 of menstruation you are protected from pregnancy after taking the pill for one week.

If you started later than day 7 you have to finish your current pack and start a new pack before you are protected from pregnancy.
