Post-Pill Bleeding: What to Expect When Stopping Birth Control

Question
Hello my name is Stacy, I have stopped my birth control to try and conceive. I had my period a little over a week ago, two days after stopping my pills I have started again, is this normal?

Answer
Hi Stacy,

Yes, spotting or mid-cycle bleeding is a common side effect of stopping the pill. It can take about 1-3 months, or in some cases longer, for women's bodies to adjust to their pre-pill hormone level and to have a regular cycle.
If the bleeding is very heavy or lasts more than a week, I recommend giving your doctor a call to let him/her know.

I hope this helps. If you have further questions let me know.
