Switching Birth Control Pills: Understanding Estrogen Levels and Breakthrough Bleeding

Question
Is it ok to change from a high dose bc pill (ortho cyclen) to a low dose bc pill (alesse). I started ortocylen on my first period date and i started bleeding non stop. When i decided to stop the pill the bleeding stop. Could there be a chance that the cause of break through bleeding was due to high estrogen levels? This isnt my first time on the pill since i was using alesse from December to march and started ortocylen since planned parent hood was out of alesse

Answer
Madelyne, I really can't tell you this. This would be a decision with your doctor. Yes, your hormone levels can be a cause of this. I would recommend finding a doctor instead of Planned Parenthood. I don't recommend using hormonal birth control methods as I feel that this can be a cause of problems with your health and normal cycle. Please write me at CHERYL51@aol.com so we can talk more.
