QuestionI was just wondering if you could give me a brief explanation of the contraindications of HIV/AIDS and shingles. I am doing a report on these diseases for pathology class,( I am in school for massage therapy) and although I have done alot of research, I would love to have the advice of an actual massage therapist to add a more realistic point of view to my presentation.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my question! :)
AnswerHello Jessica!
Shingles (Herpes Zoster) for one, is highly painful so you would not want to be putting any pressure on the sores and the client wouldn't want you to either! ;) Second, its very contagious and the last thing you want is to contract it yourself! :) Refer to a physician in the event you suspect a client has shingles.
HIV is not contraindicated by default, but depending on the client's overall health there may be contraindications for opportunustic infections, lesions, rashes, etc. which would need to be handled on their own accounts where present.
Best Wishes!
