Puffy Eyes: Causes, Solutions & What Works

Question
I'm a 35 year old female, in good health. I work out regularly and for the most part, have a healthy diet.

However, I always had a problem with puffy eyes (it's not an age thing with me because I remember having this problem since childhood too.) I'm just more aware of it now as I get older & pay more attention to my skin. Also, I can get plenty of sleep and still have puffy eyes (they are more noticeable if I don't get much sleep though). I also keep my eye cream in the refrigerator as that should help with puffiness.

Are there any other measures I can do to get rid of or reduce my puffy eyes?

Answer
Hello Kelley,

In my opinion, you are going to have to work both within and without to get rid of this puffiness. No miracle cream or serum will make this puffiness disappear. However, if you take the appropriate steps, I am positively sure that you can get rid of it.
Let's first eliminate the serious causes of puffiness: allergies, thyroid problems, hormonal problems or renal failure. If during your yearly physical exam your doctor hasn't noticed anything like this and your eyes aren't itchy, then it's good. Some medications or even birth control methods may trigger or accentuate puffiness so check with your doctor if you take medication and with your OB/gyn if you take birth control pills or injections.

First, when you say that you have a healthy diet, check out your alcohol, cigarettes, processed foods and sweets consumption. Your body might be reacting to something from your diet, although in a mild way, for example dairies or high fructose corn syrup.
As with any other skin condition, I strongly recommend you to do detox. Since we're getting close to Spring, it's a good time to start. You will find more info here:

Second, you might be getting plenty of sleep, but of poor quality. Do you wake up full of energy in the morning? If not, try to get some herbal teas or herbal extracts to help you get a better quality sleep.

Third, usually in Traditional Chinese Medicine, eye puffiness is related to a disbalance in the kidney energy. If you are interested in alternative medicine, I would recommend that you see an experienced acupuncturist for that.

Finally, you can help to reduce the puffiness a lot with Floral waters compress every evening for 10-15 min. Cornflower and Chamomile floral waters are the best. You can find recipes on these 2 blogs:

You may also want to use only natural creams with vegetal oils like argan, jojoba, raspberry seed, hazelnut, borage or primrose as they contain essential fatty acids and are powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory.

I hope you find this answer helpful.
Have a beautiful day,
Take good care
