Answer
Hi Shel,

I apologize for the delay in my response. It's a CRAZY time of year for us in the salon. :c)

There are many products to choose from and I can only give you a general answer. A lot of people call all the brands by the same name so I can only guess which ones you're talking about.

In general, Rebonding is permanent. It breaks down the inner structure of your hair and glues it back together in the new shape. This is how permanent waves work as well. Keratine shine bonds typically are more demi permanent. They smooth the cuticle, and straighten the hair to a degree. They usually don't straighten it completely but make it much easier to straighten and care for. As for which one is better depends a lot on what your goals are and what type of hair you have. Hair that is VERY curly and resistant, AND you want it VERY straight, the shine bond isn't going to do that for you. If your hair is finer or just wavy or frizzy, quite often it's plenty.

Some believe that the rebonding is more damaging and in general, I agree but they are both usually a chemical treatment and depending on your hair, both can either make your hair weak or much better.

It really depends on your hair and what your goals are. For people with very curly hair, that have never had straight hair, I usually suggest the shine bond first. Or, if their hair iw weak or color treated. If it's not enough, you can always opt for the more aggressive formula later.

Your stylist should do a very thorough consultation with you before the service and will be able to advise you with more detail.

I can tell you that my clients who opt for smoothing/straightening systems are usually very happy about their decisions. I would advise though that you use a stylist who has a bit of experience using the products though.

Good luck,
