How to Make Blue-Green Eyes Pop: Makeup Tips & Tricks

Question
Hello, I have blue eyes with green around the pupil However, some days they look gray. I have dark brown hair on top of that, I cannot find any color that brings out my eyes, how can I make them pop?

Answer
Hi Cheyenne, thanks for getting in touch.

Bringing out the colour of our eyes is an interesting subject. We naturally tend to choose the same colour as our eyes when applying eye shadow.  However, contrast is more effective in emphasising eye colour.

In your particular case therefore, I would avoid blue, green and grey and concentrate on different shades of browns.

I would suggest a mid brown for the lower eye-lid and a lighter brown/gold to highlight the upper eyelid but please experiment with all sorts of browns, tans, and golds right up to creams ivories etc to see what you feel the most comfortable with.

For parties you could perhaps try browns and golds with either a glossier or sparkly look to introduce more glamour.

For eyeliner I'd recommend black, brown or terracotta: so still staying with the contrast to your actual eye colour.

Good long-lash effect mascara is also really helpful as this frames the eye, drawing attention to your eyes.

Something else to try is choosing colours of clothing that match your eyes. If it isn't possible to find clothing that has the same colour, you could perhaps try accessories of different colours and looking at what effect this has on making your eyes stand out.

This could include hair clips, earrings, necklaces or ribbons you could stitch or just tie onto a top.  In this way you can find an over-all look that suits your individual colouring as well as spicing up your outfit and making it more personal.

I hope that this has helped,

Take care,

Claire
