Answer
Hi there Hailey thanks ever so much for your question.

You'll have to forgive me a little because I'm from London and I think we may use different words for some things here so I'm not sure what a Homecoming or an updo is.  However, I don't think that will get in the way of me answering your question about make-up.

Your outfit sounds lovely by the way.  Blue and silver go so well together and the V-neck will emphasise your feminine curves.  A pretty silver necklace would probably look amazing if you have one.

With make-up there is a tendency to pick the part of the face that we feel is our best asset and capitalise on it.  So, eyes or lips, rather than doing both which can then look a little over-done.

You'd need to start with your skin first though.  A good cleanser and toner followed by enough foundation for a complete base, using a foundation that best suits your skin colouring. Rub the foundation in until it is completely smooth.  Then a quick dust with translucent powder to help keep shine down.

If you are choosing to emphasise your eyes, you need a dark coloured eyeliner, just on the edge where your eyelashes start, this will help to bring out your eyes and offer them definition.

With eye shadows, I'd perhaps suggest blues, greys and silvers, so as to match in with your outfit.  You can add glittery silvers if it's a party.  Put the darkest colour on first and then, working up towards the eyebrow, use the lighter silvers so as to achieve a layered effect.  Gently smudge them together so that it looks smokier rather than definite stripes.

Lastly a good mascara that really lengthens and thickens your lashes. The one I'm using at the moment is Max Factor's False Lash effect; I'm sure that it would also be available in the States.  I'd suggest black or dark brown.

If you were choosing lips, for your colouring I'd pick quite a deep or bright colour, not pale.  So a deep red/brown or a brighter mid pink.   But before you apply lipstick use a lip liner pencil that is a slightly darker colour to the lipstick to outline the shape of your lips.  Then use a small brush to apply the lipstick all over your lips, starting from the centre and working outwards and then rub your lips together to get it even.  I'd then put some gloss over the top to finish it off.

Lastly, find a blusher or bronzer that you feel brings out your colour without being obvious and touch this just over the cheekbones.

Finish off with one more dusting of compact powder over your skin, avoiding eyes and lips.

Remember hands and nails too.  Maybe use some subtle nail varnish to show off your hands and some hand-cream, used every day for a few days before homecoming to soften the skin.

I hope that this has helped and that you have a lovely time at homecoming.

Take care, Claire
