QuestionHi there
I have very light skin and when I see myself in pictures I almost look "corpse like" because I'm so light. I'm interested in applying blush but don't know what shade or brand to try and am a little fuzzy on where exactly to apply it. Help?
AnswerHi Lisa, thanks for your question.
I know you have asked about blush but I'm going to start with foundation if you'll forgive me please.
You have paler skin, which is a great thing. Many women with blotchy brown skin would give anything to have skin like yours!! There are lots of ways of working with your skin tones to achieve a perfect result.
Firstly there are a number of moisturizers with tanning effect. Dove Summer Glow is a brilliant one. This will help to give your skin a little colour without the damage the sun would cause. Then there is foundation. If you choose a foundation that is a shade or 2 darker than your natural complexion, this will add to the depth. Take advice from a shop assistant with knowledge and experience and definitely test it before buying. It's difficult to recommend a particular brand without being able to see you so I'd suggest testing a number out until you feel comfortable you've found the right one for you.
Then choose a bronzer as a blush. These tend to offer a more sun-kissed look that enhance your natural colouring rather than looking like you've been slapped on each cheek. Again, ask for advice when you buy and definitely test it out.
One useful tip is to gently pinch your cheeks; just above the cheekbones and see what colour your skin turns. It would be that sort of colour your skin type would look best with.
With regard to how to apply it, use the cheekbone as a guide. Brush a little along the edge of the cheekbone starting near the ear and working down to the middle of your cheekbone. Do this for a couple of strokes then gently rub in with your fingertips.
You need to finish with a light translucent powder to complete the total effect.
I hope this helps,
Take care, Claire x
