Restoring Fiesta Ware: How to Remove Knife Marks & Scratches

Fiesta ware is a type of dinnerware produced by the Homer Laughlin Company, founded in 1871. The company introduced Fiesta ware in 1939 and produced it until 1969, when it retired the brand. The company reintroduced Fiesta ware in the 1990s. Vintage Fiesta ware is now collectible, although blemishes, chips or marks on the dishes reduce the overall value, and owners of current Fiesta may even consider knife marks unattractive. Removing marks is possible with some household supplies and may help restore the original appearance of the dishes.

  • Create a paste with baking soda and water to create a thick consistency.

  • Apply the baking soda paste to the knife marks on the Fiesta dishes.

  • Allow the baking soda mixture to sit on the dish for 30 to 60 minutes.

  • Gently wipe the baking soda mixture away with a damp, soft cleaning sponge.

  • Repeat until the knife marks are no longer visible.
